Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Aaron Durwood Motes, age 81, of Trafford, Alabama, who departed this life and entered his heavenly home on Monday, September 23, 2024.

Aaron was a kind and generous man whose heart overflowed with love and loyalty for his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, and PawPaw who faithfully led his family with humility and strength. His steadfast character and devotion to those he loved were unparalleled, and his gentle presence touched the lives of all who knew him. Aaron faithfully served his church, Solid Rock Church, as a founding elder and leader, and his dedication to his faith and community was evident in every act of service. He was a man of principle and integrity, guided by his love for God, his family, and his country. His time in the Army was a testament to his deep commitment to serving others, and his courage and loyalty were traits that defined his life. A man who loved nature, Aaron found joy in the simple pleasures of gardening and working in his yard. His hands were always busy, whether tending to his plants or building something in his workshop. His passion for creating and caring for the earth around him was a reflection of his nurturing spirit, always striving to build and grow something beautiful. Aaron was a faithful friend to many, offering support and encouragement wherever it was needed. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Grace Motes; father and mother-in-law, Milton and Edna Mae Palmer; and his beloved wife, Elaine Motes. He is now reunited with them in eternal peace. He is survived by his loving daughter, Sandy Ragland (Larry) and son, Lee Motes (Tracy). He was a proud Paw Paw to his grandchildren, Elizabeth Pickle (Alex), Rachel Ragland, Savannah Motes, and Madison Motes. PawPaw's legacy of love continues further still, through his great-grandchildren, Harper Pickle and Lainey Pickle, who will carry forward the warmth and kindness that defined his life.

Durwood will be deeply missed, but forever remembered for his generous heart, unwavering loyalty, and the love he shared so freely. Rest in peace. Your love lives on in every life you touched.
