Bert Swann.
Jr.
Apr 21, 1954 — Jun 16, 2026
Hayden
Bert Swann, Jr. of Hayden, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the age of 72. Bert was a 1972 graduate of Hayden High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Rhonda, in 1976. Bert worked for L&N/CSX Railroad for 40 years and 4 months. Together Bert and Rhonda raised three daughters, Jessica, Josselyn and Judith. Bert was saved by grace and baptized in 1982. He was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon since 1984. Bert's cancer journey started in 2011, and he battled courageously. He lived his best life taking several trips out west, up north to New York City, to the beach and Guntersville Lake, but his favorite place to be was home with his family. He lovingly referred to his home as "Swann Farm." Bert is so deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Swann, Sr. and Delores Reigle Swann; and brother, Bobby Swann. He is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Purcell Swann; his daughters, Jessica (Anthony) Reid, Josselyn (Jason) Whisonant, and Judith (Brian) Erwin; grandchildren, Kirk (Lea) Grant, Austin (Britney) Young, Harlee Kate (Hunter) Tolbert, Ramie Reid and Addison Erwin; great-grandchildren, Liam Grant and Billy Young; and sisters, Pauline and Julie Swann.
A visitation for Bert will be held at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, June 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The following day Bert will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service, officiated by Bro. Tim Barnett and Daryl Sherrell, will commence at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the funeral service, we will reconvene graveside in the adjoining cemetery for a brief committal service prior to interment.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests in Bert's memory do a good deed for others in Jesus name.
