Obituary

Brother Leon Greathouse, age 99, of Warrior, AL, went home to Glory to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. A visitation will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home Saturday, March 16 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., followed by a chapel funeral service at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will be at New Bethel Baptist Church.

Brother Greathouse was born and raised in the New Bethel community of Warrior, Alabama. He proudly served his country as a staff sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He counted it an honor to be a member of the 84th Infantry Railsplitters Division, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the division's scout. When he returned home from war, Brother Leon was soon called to service again, but this time by his Lord and Savior. He accepted the call to preach in 1955, and preached pastored for over 54 years, serving 10 churches, ran numerous revivals, and followed God's calling until the day he passed away. He spent the majority of his life leading others to Christ. He worked as a tile setter for 42 years working for Gustin Tile Company and Butler Tile and Marble Company in Decatur, Alabama. Brother Leon can be remembered in so many ways in his 99 years of life, but to his family, he will always be known as their loving daddy and granddaddy. We will carry on because of the lessons he taught us.

Matthew 25:21 KJV

"His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the lord."

He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 75 years, Johnie Greathouse; parents, William Thomas and Annie Greathouse; brothers, Troy Greathouse; Grady Greathouse, and William Greathouse; sister, Bertha Greathouse. Brother Leon is survived by his two sons, Neal Greathouse (Carolyn), Wayne Greathouse (Pam); grandchildren, Lindy Hallmark (Greg), Derrick Greathouse, Kim Parsons (Perry), Kyle Greathouse (Kelly); Eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
