Caroline Pence of Hayden, AL passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on May 26, 2024.  She was born as Caroline Aloha Ross in Honolulu, HI on December 29, 1961 to Lois Ross (Busby) and Karl Ross (deceased).  Chronic illness with Sjögren's syndrome made it very challenging for a life as full as hers. She was a talented and very creative  person who was not easily intimidated.  Her hobbies included poultry farming, gardening, dancing, singing, fostering animals, genealogy, home improvement, and reading.


She graduated with highest honors as an LPN from Bessemer Tech, worked as a nurse for several years and spent most of her career at Medix School in Marietta, GA both as an Instructor and Registrar.

She leaves behind her wonderful husband of 30 years James Pence—the love of her life.  She was proud of her four amazing children—Adam (Abbey) Sherrell, Jennifer (Philip) Beavers, Joshua (Memory) Sherrell and Tiffany (Javen) Bihm.  She loved her grandchildren—Jesse, Brooke, Levi, Brittany, Keira, Joshua, Skylar and Savannah Sherrell, Allyxandria and William Beavers, and Tessa and Ean Bihm.

Also left behind are her outstanding brother Ron Ross and nephews David Ross, Hunter and Dennis Greer, nieces Angel Goodson, Lucy and Alice Greer, as well as step sister, Connie (Murray) Wren, Aunt Linda Rand, cousin Bill Scarbrough and her feathered child Gracie.

Caroline is singing praises to her God in heaven.

The funeral service will be at Northside Baptist Church (750 14th St., Calera), Monday, June 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.  A time for condolences and visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service. Interment will be at Mars Hill Cemetery (4301 Co. Rd. 42, Jemison).
