Obituary

Mr. Cecil Edward Tidmore, Jr., age 84, of Warrior, Alabama, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Cecil was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. His family will remember his sense of humor and the funny sayings that always made people smile. He was a good and loyal friend to many. He always lived with a sense of duty and dedication to others.

Cecil proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After serving his country in the military, he became a dedicated and dutiful law enforcement officer for fifty-five years. He spent 42 years of service in the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, achieving the rank of sergeant before he retired. The last several years of his sheriff's office career were dedicated to working with the K-9 Unit, where he performed search and rescue, and believed bringing families closure was one way he could make a difference in the communities he served. After leaving his career with the sheriff's office, he continued to work as a Jefferson State Community College police officer for thirteen more years, giving him fifty-five years of total law enforcement service. Law enforcement was not just Cecil's career; it was a part of who he was.

Many times, Cecil could be found engrossed in the pages of a book, taking his time enjoying and devouring the pages of good read. He had traveled extensively, and made a point to visit all fifty U.S. states, including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. Best of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, just laughing and having a good time.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil, Sr.  and Nell Tidmore; siblings, Jeannine Chandler, Norma Mattingly, Claire Tidmore; Cathy Wilson. He is survived by his children, Cecil Tidmore, III, Mark Tidmore, Virginia Hicks, Tina Lee; special niece, Nancy McGowan; brother, Tommy Tidmore; sister, Carol Underwood; 9 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; many other beloved relatives and special friends.

Family will receive friends at Enon Baptist Church in Morris Saturday, November 18 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. The funeral will follow visitation at the church. Final committal will be at Oakwood Memorial Mauseleum in Gardendale.
