Colvin James, 63, of the New Bethel Community in Warrior, Ala. passed away peacefully in the UAB Palliative Care Unit.

Colvin was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Elaine James; and his parents, Clarence and Lavern James. He is survived by his sisters, Lethia (Jeff) Purcell and Savannah (Johnny) Smith; three nieces, Cydney (Wesley) Whitfield, Lyndey (Kris) Freeman, and Tyffney Smith; and one great-niece, Ellie Freeman. Colvin worked for the City of Birmingham's North Precinct Street Sanitation, a career that spanned 30 years of his life.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Home Sweet Home (Jem, Ms. Carolyn, Sherry, Vicky, Anita, Bobby, Reno and Cecilia), Centerwell Hospice (Courtney and Tiffany), as well as the staff at UAB Palliative Care Unit.

A visitation and public viewing will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Immediately following the visitation, we will be traveling to New Bethel Cemetery, where everyone will reconvene graveside for a committal service before interment.
