Curtis E. "Gene" Hagood passed away at home on Saturday morning, September 5, 2020 at age 76. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley Hagood; one daughter Teresa Guthrie (Gaius); two grandchildren, Scotti Clark (Tyler) and Sunni Farris (Austin); two great grandchildren, Cayden and Harper and one great granddaughter expected in February; siblings, Jenny Hutton (Gary), Betty Jarvis, Billy Stevens (Anita), Mary Hall (Tom) and Carla Gignilliat (Reed); and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Curt Hagood and Virgie Stevens; one sister, Juanita Arnold and one brother, Richard Stephens. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from Jefferson County after 30 years of service. A graveside service will be held at Haig Rogers Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. The family wishes to thank Oasis Hospice. They also wish to express their appreciation to Marshall and Frances Hood for the help they gave in caring for Gene during his extended illness. They are wonderful neighbors who are more like family.
