Don Freeman "Woody" Wood, age 85, of Warrior, Alabama went peacefully home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 22, 2022.

Don was born July 24, 1937 and raised in Powderly. He attended and graduated from Jones Valley High School. After graduating he joined the Navy and served seven years. Soon after Don became a longtime employee of Hayes International/Pemco Aeroplex, where he retired after 34 years.

Don was always an avid hunter, particularly duck, and loved fishing. He enjoyed watching football, especially the University of Alabama….Roll Tide and treasured his time coaching girls softball. After Don's retirement, he relocated to Smith Lake where he enjoyed lazy days of leisure and fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents Freeman and Zola Wood.

He is survived by his daughter Renee Loyed (Troy) and his granddaughter Kaitlyn Loyed, his former wife Jewel Wood and her children Wayne Melcher (Ti), Rhonda Wolff and Malisa LeSueur (Jack). Grandchildren Johnny Wayne Melcher, Anna Wolff, Landon Wolff, Elizabeth Barnett, Eli Barnett and Kaydie LeSueur. Along with his bonus family Deanna, RJ, Ima, Jesa, Jamie and many nieces and nephews.

Don will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends made over the years. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Warrior as well as being a Master Mason and Shriner with the Grand Lodge of Alabama No.722.

The family extends their appreciation and gratitude to Hanceville Nursing and Rehab for their outstanding care and kindness shown to Don during his short stay.

A visitation for Don will be held Monday, September 26th, at 2pm. Funeral service to follow at 3pm with Brother Gary Creel officiating. Interment following at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
