Dorothy (Dot) Lee York, of Warrior, Alabama, born March 6, 1937, passed from this life to the next on November 10, 2020.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Silas Gordon Sloan and Annie Lee Sloan; by her first husband , Charles D. Peoples (1935- 1988) , her second husband , Raymond E. York (1930-2017) ; her children Kevin Scott Peoples, and Lisa K. Kilgore , by her brothers: J.B Sloan, Gene Sloan (Jo), Billy Sloan (Rosellar), Douglas Sloan (Carol) and Harold Sloan (Linda).

She is survived by her children:

Stepd aughter Linda Y Watkins (Conrad) of Irondale, Alabama

She has a great many grandchildren, step grandchildren, and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and she cherished them all.

Mo m graduated from Corner High School in 1955 and enjoyed the single life until she wed Charles (Skebo) Peoples in 1957. She worked various administrative jobs for the next 30 years, while simultaneously raising a houseful of children. She was a loving, witty, fun, creative and resourceful mother. She enjoyed her children immensely, singing to us frequently (her favorite was the One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater), dancing in the living room, writing stories and songs about us and with us. S he loved having meals with her family ; of course , the easier the better. From crab boils, to boiled shrimp, steak , rice , and gravy, whatever brought our hungry mouths to the table was her preferred meal.

Later in life, after her children were mostly grown, she cared for her terminally ill husband with courage and tenderness. Life was not always easy, but she was always determined to make the best of it.

She married Ray York in June 1989. They traveled the country frequently, mostly work related, for the next 13 years. Mom loved traveling, and especially enjoyed life in Hickory, NC and Monticello, NY. Happiness was wherever she could be with Ray.

She was a strong woman , and endured much pain and grief throughout her life, but never gave in to despair. She was determined but gentle, protective but selfless and kind but not naive. Her heart may have quit but her spirit never did. She was loved, and will be missed, by many.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
