Mrs. Evelyn L. Sloan, age 80, of Warrior, Alabama, passed away peacefully at UAB Hospital Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Evelyn Sloan loved the Lord passionately with her whole heart. She loved His Word, and the things of God. She lived her life to point her family to God. Her favorite hymn was "One Day at a Time," and no matter what challenges life presented, or what burdens came her way, Evelyn got up each day, and sought the Lord and His presence.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents L. A. and Geneva Hughes; husband, Lathal Sloan; infant son, Nathan Sloan; daughter, Kayla Sloan; brother, Michael Hughes.

She is survived by her children, Darrell (Susan) Sloan, and Gerald (Connie) Sloan; grandchildren, Reed (Taylor) Massengill, Johnny Dale Spence, Jared Sloan, Nathan (Madison Mindler) Sloan, Nick (Katie) Sloan, Nelson (Rebecca) Sloan, Noble Sloan; great-grandchildren, Levi Massengill, Luke Massengill, Isaiah Sloan, and Riley Sloan; a host of family and friends.

A funeral service will be held in the chapel April 10 at 12:00 p.m., with visitation 1 hour prior to the service, Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home directing. Interment will be at New Bethel Cemetery (Warrior Jasper Road).
