Farris Joan Bennett, 73, died July 1, 2022, at her home surrounded by family. She was born May 30, 1949, in Birmingham, Alabama, to J.D. and Annie Thomas. She graduated from Corner High School in Warrior, Alabama, in 1967, and continued her education at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama. She worked many years at Tyson Foods, Inc. at their facilities in Empire, Alabama, and Blountsville, Alabama. After retirement, she began her business, BennJo, LLC, where she made and sold floral arrangements, wreaths, and gift baskets. She lived her entire adult life in the community of Corner, Alabama, and was frequently involved in many efforts to make the community a better place for all who lived there. Her hobbies and interests included genealogy, flower arranging, quilting, and writing short stories. She devoted much of her time and energy in being a caregiver to her mother and father in their later years. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Melvin Barry Bennett; her daughter, Amy Prisoc (John); her grandson, John Tyler Prisoc; her sister, Judy Thomas; her nephew, Michael McEwan; and her mother, Annie Thomas. She was preceded in death by her father, J.D. Thomas, Jr.; and her brother, David Thomas. Services will be held July 5, at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home in Warrior, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral service at New Horizon Memorial Gardens in Dora, Alabama.
