Gary Wayne Thomas, age 72, of Hayden, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2019, at Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center.
Gary was born on August 8, 1947, to parents Herman and Sarah Thomas. He served in Vietnam in 1969-70, receiving many awards for his service. He was very honored and proud to serve his country, and always said that the reason he made it through was because his mama was here praying for him. In his civilian life, Gary was a truck driver who received awards for his hard work and dedication; also training others in his area of expertise. He is survived by sons Scott Thomas and Allan Thomas (April); daughter Angie Edgeworth (Chad);grandchildren Kelsey Edgeworth, Austin Thomas and great-granddaughter Kynley Edgeworth; Joyce Thomas, mother of Angie and Allan and a host of family and friends. Gary was the sibling to one brother and ten sisters.

Visitation for Gary will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 23, from 5:00pm- 7:00pm. Funeral service will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Thursday, October 24, at 10:00am, Bro. Denny Armstrong to officiate. Burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
