Gary Michael
Womack
Aug 18, 1942 — Apr 22, 2022
Pinson
Pinson, AL – Gary Michael (Mike) Womack went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 22, 2022, and we rejoice that he is completely healed and suffering no longer.
Mike was born on August 18, 1942, to James and Margaret Womack, and lived his entire life in Pinson. The oldest of three brothers, Mike graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School, and while still in his teens, met and married Mary Ruth Shaw. They were married for almost 60 years, until her death in 2018. Mike was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim Womack, and his son, Tommy Womack.
Mike is survived by his daughters Lisa Lipscomb, and Susie Wilkinson (Bern), four grandchildren, Ashleigh Lipscomb, Katie Lipscomb, and Jeremiah Lipscomb (Jana), John Michael Holbrooks (Janet), his brother Jack Womack (Dorothy), his brother-in-law Joe Shaw (Brenda), and many nieces and nephews.
Mike began his career at Pinson Plumbing, becoming a master plumber and starting his own company, M. G. Womack Plumbing Company. Although a plumber by trade, Mike could build anything, from baby doll furniture to the house he lived in with his wife. Later, Mike began at East End Hospital in the maintenance department and stayed with the hospital almost 25 years, eventually retiring from Medical Center East as Director of Plant Operations.
Mike loved fishing, Elvis, working in his yard, snow, the beach, and food, being a "foodie" long before the word was invented. He just loved living. However, what Mike loved most was his family. He was a proud Pawpaw, THE BEST daddy, and a wonderfully caring and loving husband. Mike loved Mary in a way that can only be described in books or movies, giving her everything she ever needed or wanted, and always putting her before himself. He faithfully and tirelessly cared for her in her sickness, even holding her hand the very moment she left this world.
Daddy's absence will leave a void that will never be filled. We will miss his laughter, his problem-solving skills, his company, and his love, but we rest in the fact that he is in the glory and presence of the Lord and that we will be reunited with him one day.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, April 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Marvin's Chapel Cemetery located behind Pinson United Methodist Church. Those who wish to remember Mike in a special way may make gifts in his memory to St. Jude's or The Shriners Hospital.
Pallbearers will be John Michael Holbrooks, Jeremiah Lipscomb, Donnie Shaw, Chris Shaw, Tommy Gamel, and Ray Hintson. Honorary pallbearers are David Evans, Jimmy Vaughn, Bennie Montgomery, and Bern Wilkinson.
