Ottis Eugene Myrick, better known as Gene or "Slick," 88, of Warrior, Alabama, passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of faith, resilience, and adventure. Born on June 18, 1936, Slick lived life to the fullest, embracing his family, his community, and his steadfast faith in Jesus Christ.

Slick is survived by his loving daughters, Wendy Davis (Bill) and Alice Boone; his cherished grandchildren, Courtney Myrick and Juliet Boone; and his precious great-grandchildren, Emma Cook, Jack Tipton, and Robert and Kane Zeller. He also leaves behind his devoted nieces and nephews, with special mention of Jim and Bill Wasson. Slick now rejoices in Heaven alongside his beloved granddaughter, Cassie Cook, who passed away two years ago. Their reunion is surely filled with boundless joy. Other loved ones who preceded him in death are his brothers, Olus, Gerald, and Herald Myrick; his dear sister, Beetrice Wasson; and his loving parents, Sterling and Alice Myrick.

An adventurer at heart, Slick's life was a testament to the beauty of exploration and passion. A licensed pilot, he found freedom in the skies and exhilaration on the slopes, skiing regularly at Snowshoe, West Virginia. His love for the open road led him to Sturgis, where he participated in the iconic motorcycle rally, relishing the camaraderie and spirit of the event. A skilled mechanic and car enthusiast, Slick enjoyed racing and shared his profound knowledge of engines with anyone eager to learn. His fascination with the American West reflected his deep appreciation for its vast landscapes and limitless horizons.

Known for his generosity, kindness, and unwavering optimism, Slick was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. His enduring strength and positive outlook inspired everyone he encountered, and he remained rooted in his faith throughout life's challenges and triumphs. Above all, he adored his family, treasuring every moment spent with them, and placed his complete trust in Jesus Christ, whose guidance shaped his incredible journey.

As we gather to celebrate Slick's extraordinary life, we honor the countless memories he created and the immense love he shared. While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, love, and adventure will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.

A visitation and viewing will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Monday, February 3, 2025. Family will receive guests in the funeral home's chapel from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The U.S. Army's Honor Guard will begin our funeral ceremony at noon, with the playing of TAPS and the folding/presentation of the burial flag. Following the funeral service, everyone will reconvene graveside in New Bethel Cemetery, where Mr. Myrick's funeral rites will conclude with a brief committal service just before interment.

Please note: We will not be traveling to New Bethel Cemetery in a formal procession, which means we will not have police officers to escort us or block traffic. If you plan to follow the hearse to the cemetery, be mindful of all traffic laws! Failure to abide by traffic laws, in an attempt to prevent other vehicles from interrupting the funeral procession, can result in a ticket or an accident. If you are not part of the immediate family, we encourage you to depart from the funeral home ahead of the hearse, allowing yourself time to find parking at the cemetery and walk to the graveside, where everyone will reconvene for the committal service and interment.
