Geraldine "Jabo" Sandlin of Warrior, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the age of 95. Agnes Geraldine Bennett, the daughter of Clifton and Zula Bennett, was born inside a mining camp in Nyota, Alabama, on May 30, 1930. Geraldine graduated from Hayden High School, class of 1947, and it was there that she met the love of her life, R.L. Hutchins. The two married started a family and enjoyed many years together. She retired from BebCo after 22 years of working as a secretary for the company and went on to accept a job that she truly loved, working in the deli of Piggly Wiggly. She enjoyed serving lunch or dinner to everyone who came through her line. Her favorite thing to do was talk, earning her the playful moniker "Jabo." Jabo kept her job in the deli well into her 80's. Everyone in the community knew her and enjoyed coming through her line during the 17 years that she worked there. Geraldine was also a member of Warrior Assembly of God for many years. She loved to travel, and her prized possession was her collection of coffee mugs from every state. As much as she treasured that prize possession, she loved her family most of all. Jabo will be so greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. Hutchins; parents, Cliff and Zula Bennett; and siblings, Opal Ausborn and Carl Bennett. She is survived by her son, Gary Hutchins (Wanda); grandchildren, Haley Harris and Casey Hutchins (Jamie); as well as six great-grandchildren.

The visitation and viewing will be held in the chapel of Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Sunday, September 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Bro. Greg Wolford will be officiating. We will not be traveling in a formal procession and therefore encourage everyone to travel of their own accord to Warrior Cemetery, where we will reconvene at the graveside for a brief committal service before interment.
