Gordon "Country Boy Eddie" Burns, 92, passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 13, 2023.

Gordon Eddie Burns was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lewis and Martha Ann Burns; wife of 61 years, Edwina Burns; great-granddaughter, Amelia Burns; and siblings, Carl Burns, Bert Burns, Ulysses Burns, Robert Burns, Nellie Ruth Corbitt, Irene Jett and Gene Burns. He is survived by his son, Doyle Burns (Lori); grandchildren, Cody Burns (Autumn), Kara Burns Spearman (Matt), Cortney Burns Stoner (Robby), Anna Davis Abel (Jacob) and Kevin Davis; and great-grandchildren, Zoey Harper, Emory Burns, Sophie Stoner, and Vivian Spearman.

Eddie married Edwina Acton Burns, and they enjoyed a wonderful 61 years and raised a loving family together. He was baptized at Piney Woods Baptist Church by Brother Ray Moore.

Eddie was proud of his military service to his country. He served in the army during the Korean War and was responsible for the capture of over 50 enemy troops.

Not being able to finish formal schooling, Eddie only got to finish the third grade. But, he was intelligent and hard working. He had a natural ability for numbers and finance. He used his strengths and talents well, and became a self-made man.

Music was in Eddie's heart from a young age. He sold flower seeds to buy his first fiddle at the age of twelve. He became an avid musician and entertainer. His first radio station was in Leeds, Alabama. He continued to gain popularity, and eventually had his own television morning show on Fox 6, "The Country Boy Eddie Show."

Thousands of Alabamians grew up daily watching Country Boy Eddie do his live morning music program. Every morning started with Country Boy Eddie, local musicians, morning news bulletins, and a cup of coffee. Country Boy Eddie was an Alabama household name. The show aired for 37 years and set a record for the longest live TV program. His show and music career allowed him to have a positive impact on music lovers, young up-and-coming musicians, and countless other people.

Eddie was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. In 2022,  Alabama Music Awards honored him with the Lifetime Achievement Award for the impact his life and career made on so many other lives.

Not everyone knew Eddie enjoyed WWE wrestling, but he did like watching it. He was also an animal lover, especially his beloved pet, Angel.

Even though music and entertainment was how Eddie Burns spent most of his days, he was still a friend to everyone. That is the way Eddie "Country Boy Eddie" Burns will be remembered by thousands and thousands of people and multiple generations.

A visitation will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  A service will be on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 1:00pm at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
