Grady Mayfield, Jr., age 77, of Warrior, Alabama, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021. There's not enough paper, there's not enough ink and Webster's dictionary fails miserably to offer up adequate enough words to give a description of this remarkable man and his life any due justice! So, here we are oddly enough reduced to the very thing he loved the most, a good ole story! Planet Earth nearly collapsed in on itself on September 12th, 1943, when Grady Mayfield, Jr. left Heaven's assembly line and burst onto the scene! For the next 77 years, all poor Mother Nature could do was just hold on! He kept us all in stitches, defended his country with red, white and blue coursing through his veins, loved fiercely, never met a stranger, picked up every lost coin from Jefferson County, Alabama to the Amish hills of Tennessee, and served his God with a passion worthy of the words he heard uttered in the early morning hours of June 25th, 2021, "Well done, my good and faithful servant!" Grady was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Mayfield, Sr. and Rilla Mayfield; and siblings, Julius Mayfield and Jewel Owens. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Mayfield; daughters, Jennifer Curtis (Randy) and Janet Veasey (Alan); grandchildren, Jared Kerr (Katie), Dalton Curtis, Joshua Veasey, and Julia Veasey; great-grandson, Aaron Grady Kerr; siblings, Shirley Eubanks, Norman Mayfield, Steve Mayfield, and Carl Mayfield; as well as a host of extended family and friends. A visitation for Mr. Mayfield will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church on Monday, June 28, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Zayne Smith to officiate. Interment to follow at New Bethel Cemetery.
