Obituary

Reverend Jack Wesley McCombs passed away on June 1, 2023 at Woodland Village after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Jack was born on March 28, 1943 in Hayden, Alabama to J.C. and Alene Wood McCombs. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Mona Banister and brother Ross Edgar McCombs (Linda). He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Judy Page McCombs; daughters June Phillips (Mike) and Jan Holtzclaw (Chris); brothers David McCombs (Sheila) and Collis McCombs (Karen); and his 6 grandchildren Paige Cox (Jordan), Emily McCombs-Manning, Nick Martin, Bethany Manning, Brittany Manning and Madison Manning; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jack grew up on a farm in Hayden, Alabama. He graduated from Hayden High School. After high school, he joined the Army. He was only able to serve in the military for a short period of time. He had to return  home to help his mother care for his siblings and tend to the farm after the sudden passing of his father. He married Judy Page in 1962. They enjoyed a wonderful life together, full of memories, love and laughter. He worked at several companies but spent most of his career as a plant superintendent at Metco in Hartselle, AL. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed coon hunting and fishing. His greatest passion was telling people about Jesus. He faithfully served God throughout his life. He had the "heart of a shepherd." He ministered with gentle compassion and was a very humble, kind and godly man. He was selfless in his giving and loved serving the Lord by helping everyone around him. He served at many churches in the community, most recently as a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church Hayden, AL, by teaching and preaching about God, providing help to those in need, visiting with the sick and by serving at the Jimmie Hale Mission. He was a wonderful husband, Dad, and Pa. No matter how big everyone got you could always find comfort in his lap. He gave the best advice, most amazing face and eye rubs and even pinches which was a lifelong habit. To know Jack was to love Jack. He will be missed by so many. To those left behind, there is peace and comfort knowing without a doubt that he is in heaven. Funeral services will be held at Messmer-Goodwin in Warrior, AL on June 4, 2023. Visitation will be at 1 pm followed by funeral service at 2 pm with burial at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetary in Hayden, AL. Bro. Kevin Bowman officiating.
