James R. Brakefield, age 66, of Warrior, AL passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023. James loved being a dad and a grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandsons. On Saturdays in the fall, you could find him watching Alabama football. Some knew him by his famous nickname, "Squeaky." He was a friend to many over the years. He was stubborn on one hand, but would give you the shirt off his back on the other. Chances are, when you saw him he was wearing Levi blue jeans and either and Alabama shirt or a plain white T-shirt. He loved the Lord and enjoyed talking about Heaven. He loved gospel music, and I think it's safe to say he had his share of Jack's hamburgers. As he leaves this world and enters the next, he will always be remembered as a great dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. James, we will see you again soon. Thank you for all the wonderful memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. James was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Roberto Brakefield. He is survived by his son, Tim Brakefield (Emily); grandsons, Noah and Cohen Brakefield; siblings, Shirley Fallow, Betty Franks, Charles Brakefield, Roy Lee Brakefield and Rodney Brakefield; as well as a host of other extended family members. A visitation for James will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Monday, July 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Messmer Goodwin Chapel the following day, Tuesday, July 25, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Bro. Keith Brakefield to officiate the chapel service and committal. Interment to follow at Elvester Cemetery.
