James Daniel Gunn, Jr. of Sumiton, Ala. passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the age of 31.

James was an old soul, very intelligent, laid back and easy going. He was most proud of his daughter, Emarosa. James never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew him. He had many health battles, even blindness, but through it all he remained so positive. He always said, "Don't worry, God has got me." He loved riding motorcycles, fishing, eating, listening to music, and visiting with his friends. He was the apple of his Nana Sheila's eye. He will be missed by his family and friends tremendously. Heaven has gained a precious soul.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Daniel Gunn, Sr. and Carmen McKeithen; grandfather, Buddy McKeithen. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gunn; daughters, Emarosa Gunn and Adriana Mosley; brother, John Gunn; grandmothers, Sheila Doss Barnwell and Peggy Alexander; grandfather, Theron Gunn; as well as a niece and several cousins.

A visitation and funeral service will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 17. Visitation for guests will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Private family visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Theron Gunn, will begin at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following the funeral service, everyone will travel of their own accord to Liberty Minter Cemetery, where we will all reconvene graveside for a brief committal service prior to interment.
