Obituary

James Harold Kennedy, age 93, of Warrior, Ala. passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

James was known by many names.. Pop, Burger, and Stooge, to name a few.
James joined the Navy in May of 1950, and proudly served in our military for 4 years as a armament mechanic. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, and the United States Service Medal. James, Pop, Burger and Stooge were all known for serving their country, and their community.
After his time served in the military, James attended Birmingham Southern College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He went on to become a writer and eventually a reporter for The Birmingham News, where he stayed for over 20 years before retiring.
After retirement, he continued to write stories for many years. James loved reading, and spent a lot of time at the library. He truly loved his library and church family at Waterstone Baptist Church.
James will be greatly missed, but we celebrate knowing that he is now with loved ones and our Lord in Heaven.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Kennedy and Beatrice Harden Kennedy; and his son, Robert Kennedy.
He is survived by his son, Jason Kennedy (Tara); and grandchildren: James Gregory Kennedy, James Matthew Kennedy, Jonathon Ryan Kennedy, Daniel Wesley, and Kayla Herring.

The family will be hosting a memorial service that will be held at Waterstone Baptist Church on Thursday, February 13, beginning at 5:00 p.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m.

A note on floral arrangements for those planning to order: Because this is a memorial service being held after cremation, there will not be a grave to cover with traditional floral stands. Therefore, it is best to order a floral arrangement that the family will be able to easily carry home with them to enjoy after the service, such as a live potted plant or freshly cut flowers arranged in a bouquet. Request that your floral arrangement be delivered to Waterstone Baptist Church the day of the memorial service.
