James "Phillip" Metcalf, 67, of Warrior, peacefully took his last breath at home then entered into eternity in Heaven with His Savior on Sunday, October 4, 2020. Phillip was a retired coal miner who loved to fish, work in his garden and yard, sing, play bass guitar and enjoyed meeting up with his friends at Jacks. He was a faithful member of Waterstone Church and loved His Lord, his family and church family very much.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife of 49 years who lovingly took care of him during his final months, Jerri Metcalf; two children, who poured out their love and cared for him and bought his favorite foods including but not limited to Jacks' milkshakes and every kind of cobbler especially his favorite, blackberry, Angela Sanderson (Darrell) of Warrior and Paul Metcalf (Rachel) of Hayden; one brother, who had wonderful visits with him filled with precious memories, Anthony Metcalf (Debbie) of Pinson; four grandchildren, who brought love and laughter on every visit to their Poppy, Beth Samples (Justin), Bekah Tumblin, Kami Sanderson and Abner Metcalf; one great grandson, who brought an extra infusion of joy and love with him every time he saw his Great Poppysaurus, Elijah Samples. Phillip had many nieces, nephews and friends that he loved dearly.

Visitation is from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on October 6th at Waterstone Church in Warrior, Alabama. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Elvester Cemetery. The family requests no flowers to be sent. If you would like, you may make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
