James "Wayne" Whisonant, age 75, of Hayden, Alabama, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. "Tooter" and Billie "Louise" Whisonant. He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Jacobs Whisonant; sons and daughters-in-law, Brandon and Kristy Whisonant, Jason and Josselyn Whisonant; grandchildren, Grayson Whisonant, Garrett Whisonant, Austin Young; brother, Steven Whisonant, and a host of family and friends.

Wayne will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and Poppa. He was a boilermaker for 37 years, and a member of local 108. He was a dedicated hard worker and leader, setting an example for others to follow. He was a member of Locust Fork Masonic Lodge #481 for 50 years.

Wayne loved everything about the outdoors, even cutting the grass. He loved being on the water any time, but his favorite time was being out on the water at sunrise. One of his favorite things was competitive bass fishing. He particularly enjoyed the comradery among the anglers. He loved outdoor team sports, especially baseball and football, just about anything his kids or grandkids played.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, March 26 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. with funeral services following immediately after visitation. Brother Denny Armstrong and Tim Blackmon will officiate services. Interment will be at Union Grove Cemetery (Hwy. 160).
