Joan C.
Mason
Jul 14, 1940 — Jun 19, 2026
Warrior
Joan C. Mason of Hayden, Ala. was born July 14, 1940, and passed away on June 19, 2026, at the age of 85. Joan wasn't the only name this fine lady answered to; she was also affectionately known as Mema, AJ, cousin, and most importantly, Mother. She was known by her family as the finest wife, mother, grandmother and cousin. She loved her entire family and friends wholeheartedly, always putting them first and giving them all that she could, and they loved and cared for her just as deeply. Joan graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School in 1958. She attended New Bethel Baptist Church and was saved and baptized in 1966, giving her life fully to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Because of this, we know where her soul is now, as she fully knew where she was going when she left this earth. She always put her family and friends first, giving them all that she could. Goodbye for now, Mema - we will see you another day.
Joan is survived by her husband of 68 years and 4 months, James D. Mason; son, Warren Mason (Gina); daughter, Robin Shore (Dennis); brother, Danny Hardiman; as well as a number of cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Her extended family reached as far as Michigan, Illinois and Arizona.
A wake will be held in the chapel of Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, June 24. The family will have a private viewing from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and will receive guests from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Bro. Gary Creel and Bro. Joe Hart, will be held the following day, Thursday, June 25, beginning at noon. Immediately following the funeral service, everyone will depart from the funeral home and travel to Mt. Olive Cemetery of their own accord, where we will all reconvene graveside for a brief committal service prior to interment.
