Mr. John Hugh Knopf, 87, of Chelsea, Alabama, passed to his eternal rest June 22, 2021. John graduated from Warrior High School, class of 1952. He then attended the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. He was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Navy, attached to the U.S. Marines as a Hospital Corpsman. After serving his country, he worked as a salesman, district manager and merchandiser for a company out of New York. Being a highly motivated individual, he left his job of 16 years to start his own company. After retiring, he pursued his favorite hobby of automobiles by working for a car dealership. John was compassionate about helping family, friends and strangers. His expertise was repairing ANYTHING. He also enjoyed golf, traveling, and fishing. He and his family were residents of Hoover, Alabama for almost 50 years. John was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ethel Knopf; brothers, Carl, Paul, Ray, Ralph, and Joe Knopf. He is survived by his wife, Sue Murphree Knopf; daughter, Amanda (Ray) Bronner; sons, Tim (Sue) Knopf, Chris (Lyn) Knopf, and Samuel "Andy" Knopf; grandchildren, Rachel, Trevor, Jayson, Duncan, Evelyn (Evey) Knopf; great-granddaughter, Summer Knopf; sisters, Helen Jolly, Ethelene Bullard; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held in the chapel, Friday, June 25, 2021, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Lowell Vann to officiate. Interment will be at Morris Cemetery.
