John Martin Goodwin, born February 1, 1933, went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2020 at age 87. John was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church and lived out his Christian faith. He graduated Hayden High School and attended Jefferson State Community College. John was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Goodwin and Edna Cox Goodwin; daughter, Vickie Knox; and aunt who raised him as her own after the death of his parents, Ethel Scott. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Earline Goodwin; son, John D. Goodwin (Monica) of Chicago; daughters, Cathy Moncrief (Richard) of Birmingham and Susan Hahn (Stanley) of Hayden; son-in-law, Kenneth Knox; grandchildren, Ryon Moncrief, Kevon Moncrief (Anna Leigh), Amy Jean (Jamie), Michael Knox (Haley), Kari Marsh (Stone), Joseph M. Goodwin, and Stephen Goodwin; great grandchildren, Sean Moncrief, Holden Knox and Murphy Ann Moncrief. John worked for South Central Bell / AT&T for 38 years. He was drafted into the Army in 1953 where he served in the Korean Conflict after which he enlisted with the Army National Guard and served with the 131st Signal Battalion until 1993. He filled many roles in life but was most happy as a farmer working his land and tending his cows. He valued hard work and loyalty. He was careful how his actions might influence another. His best advice was, "Do something for somebody, it'll make you feel good." John will be laid to rest at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
