John D. McCartt, Jr., age 84, of Warrior, AL passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. John was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born and lived in Warrior, Alabama. He attended Warrior High School where he played football, forming many lifelong friendships. John was an Auburn graduate and he truly loved his Auburn Tigers. He had many accomplishments, which included a career at Allstate Insurance Company. He had the heart of an adventurer, which allowed him to travel the world on many safari hunts. After his retirement, he spent joyous hours outside in his garden. His main focus and love was his Japanese maples. In all of his endeavors, he was fully committed to the preparation, dedication and hard work to reach the goals he set out for himself to achieve. John accepted Christ as his Savior and was a faithful member of County Line Baptist Church. He never stopped the pursuit of increasing his knowledge and relationship with Jesus Christ, and at the end of his life he said " I know what God is going to do for me." He will be sorely and forever missed by all those who knew and loved him. John was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred E. Brakefield and John D. McCartt, Sr.; and siblings, Anita Emerson, Greta Shaner, and Tom Brakefield. He is survived by his wife, Joan McCartt; daughters, Pam (Danny) Sitton, Kim (Keith) Brannon, April (Morgan) Smith, and Mellany (Steve) Gray; grandchildren, Misty, Daniel, Caleb, Hunter, Brodie, Kent, Kendall and Kirsti; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service for John will be held at County Line Baptist Church on Saturday, June 10, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
