John Carlysle Russell, 88, of Kimberly, Ala. passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

John was born on August 25, 1937. He was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. John had many hobbies, including knife, watch and firearm collecting. He was very knowledgeable on his family history and was a great storyteller. He loved to sing and attend Sacred Harp hymnal singings. John loved spending time with his family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Russell and Nola Isabelle Russell; and his wife, Eulene Miller Russell.

He is survived by his daughter, Nena Russell Rice (Duane); grandchildren, James Russell Reid (Rachelle), Allison Richelle Peterson (Justin), Savannah Katherine Owens (Blake), Myranda Lou Lopez (Gabe); and a host of great-grandchildren.

A visitation and funeral service for John will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The family will have a private viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and will begin receiving friends in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. The funeral service, officiated by Bro. Doyle Creel, will begin at 12:00 p.m. Immediately following the funeral service, everyone will travel of their own accord to Morris Cemetery, where we will all reconvene for a brief committal service prior to interment.
