Our beloved father, Joseph Samuel Rogers, Sr. found eternal peace on Thursday, February 13, at 4:17 p.m., after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing he's no longer in pain. May God's loving arms envelop him!

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Verda Johnson Rogers; three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his children, Crystal Callans and Joseph (Anita) Rogers, Jr.; grandchildren, Casey Rogers and Brooke Bonds; great-granddaughter, Emilia Rogers; as well as three sisters.

Joseph was a hardworking and honest man, who was loved and respected by family and friends. He was a very loving, caring and devoted father who graduated from both Jefferson and Bevill State Community Colleges while working and taking care of his two children. If you asked him what life's greatest pleasures are, he would say hunting, fishing, cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren. May you be fishing in serene waters, reeling in joyful catches, and smiling brightly, dear daddy!

A visitation for Mr. Rogers will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Thursday, February 20. A private visitation for the family will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the family will begin receiving guests in the funeral home's chapel at 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m., with the playing of TAPS and folding/presentation of the United States burial flag. Immediately after the funeral service, everyone will reconvene graveside in Hays Cemetery, for a brief committal service just before interment. Bro Steve Bowen will be officiating the funeral rites.
