Julius Alfred Salyers, known best as "Dude Salyers" by the Warrior community, and "PawPaw Dude" by his family, passed away early Sunday morning, May 30, 2021. He was married to the love of his life, Jean Evelynn, for 59 years. Dude was a loving father and PawPaw, who loved the outdoors and Alabama football. A native of Warrior, Dude played football for Warrior schools, and was the president of the Warrior Quarterback Club. Dude also coached baseball for the Warrior community for many years. He loved to sing, and traveled to nursing homes, churches and community centers singing and doing ministry work. Dude enjoyed many fun activities with family, including a cornhole tournament he had joined with them. He worked as a carpenter for 60 years. Dude was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Minnie Salyers; wife, Jean Evelynn Salyers; sister, Barbara Wilson; and daughter-in-law, Joy Salyers. He is survived by his sons, Al Salyers and Marty (Valinda) Salyers; daughters, Marilyn (Patrick) White, Cynthia (Jerry) White, Tammy (Billy) White, and Loretta (Joey) White; grandchildren, Jeremy, Meredith, Bradley, Jesen, Jonathon, C.J., Shelby, Allison, Grace, Tabitha, Victoria, and Madilyn; great-grandchildren, Todd, Presli, Brynleigh, Emmalynn, Evelyn, Lawson, Baleigh Mae, Stella, Ella Jo, Amelia, Brooks, and Raelynn; and siblings, Jimmy Salyers, Gail Pate, and Judy Beasley. A visitation for Dude will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Monday, May 31, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Cane Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home.
