Obituary

Kenneth Oliver Smith, Jr., age 61 of Hayden, Al passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Kenny was a Devoted Christian, Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. He was a graduate of Ensley High School. He went on to serve his country in the US Marine Corps and became a decorated combat Marine Veteran. While serving his country, he received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal among other meritorious military medals and ribbons. He later completed his Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He was very proud of his service with the Birmingham Police Department and Federal Marshall Service. As a Law Enforcement Officer, he served 20 years and was awarded 3 lifesaving medals among other numerous accomplishments during his time on the force. Kenny loved everything Auburn Tigers and especially their Football, Basketball, and Baseball programs. As a little league Coach, he loved to mentor young kids and most of all he enjoyed watching his own kids and grandkids compete in sports and youth activities. Kenny loved his family and friends and all he served with both as a Marine and with his Brothers and Sisters in Law Enforcement.

Kenny was preceded in death by; Jesse and Lenora Smith /Paternal Grandfather and Grandmother, Thelma Greenhill/Maternal Grandmother, Kenneth O. Smith Sr./Father, Patricia Smith/Mother, Mark Smith/Brother, Dorothy Alkire/Mother-In-Law, Richard B. Harrison/Father-In-Law, Kenneth O. Smith III/Son, Kenneth O. Smith IV/Grandson, Tock Julaka/Brother-In-Law.

He is survived by; Cindy Smith/Wife, Carissa Potts/Daughter, Jesse Paul Smith/Son, Danny Smith/Brother, Karen Sawyer/Sister, Patricia Julaka/Sister, Billy Sawyer/Brother-In-Law, Rick Harrison/Brother-In-Law, April Harrison/Sister-In-Law, Cole Potts/Grandson, Caden Potts/Grandson, Mason Smith/Grandson, Trey Smith/Grandson, Aubrey Smith/Granddaughter, Also a host of Aunts, Nieces & Nephews that he loved very much.

There will be a visitation for Kenneth on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with funeral services to start at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Providence Cemetery.
