He was one of the sweetest gentlemen and a friend to many. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, having served on the U.S.S. Boxer . He worked for the City of Birmingham Streets and Sanitation Department as a foreman. He retired from UAB Maintenance Department where he was admired and loved for his knowledge. A true craftsman, carpenter, and gardener, he built beautiful homes as well as furniture. His garden yielded many wonderful things to eat, which he shared with his family and friends. His yard was beautiful and green. He had strong, rough hands that were ever so gentle with his children and grandchildren. HIs children and grandchildren would seek him out whenever they had a splinter for him to remove with his pocketknife, never causing any pain because of his gentleness. He read the Bible every day and was a God-fearing man who loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart. He will truly be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Grace Armstrong; brother, Claburn Armstrong: son, Dale Armstrong; granddaughter, Sandy Rhoad. He is survived by his loving wife, Bama Armstrong: daughter, Yvonne (Robby) Russell; son, Gary Armstrong; grandchildren Abbey Sherrell, Amber (Austen) Bibb, Ashley (Jesse) Shipp, Jordan (Allie) Jones, Samantha (Zach) Box, Kasey Armstrong; Shelby (Davis) Patterson; numerous great-grandchildren.
