Martha Nan Mosley, age 93, of Warrior, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

A visitation for Mrs. Mosley will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at noon. Minister Barry Mosley will officiate the funeral ceremony. Immediately following the funeral service, we will be traveling to Morris Cemetery, where a brief committal service will be held at the graveside just before interment.
Mrs. Mosley was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Pearl Goodwin of Warrior, husband Royce, son Tom (Jill), brother Clarence Goodwin, Jr. (Ethel), and sister Jean Thomas (Horace). She was also preceded in death by her sisters Louise, Edith, and Kathleen, all of whom died as infants/toddlers before Mrs. Mosley was born. She is survived by her daughter Pam Corsentino (Charles), Mike Mosley, Chuck Mosley (Sherry), Nancy Smith (Terry), and Keith Mosley (Wanda). She is also survived by eight grandchildren (Tom's son Patrick Mosley, daughter Rachel Melofsky, and stepson Jonathan Adams; Chuck's son Drew Mosley and daughter Tanna Thomas; Nancy's daughters Crystal Poe and Courtney Hines; and Keith's daughter Elizabeth James), thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

Martha was born on October 4, 1931. She was born in the middle of the Great Depression in her parents' tiny home in the little community of Cane Creek just outside of Warrior. Her father was a coal miner and her mother was a homemaker. Times were hard, and Martha used to say "we didn't have two nickels to rub together." She attended the Warrior schools during the 1930's and 40's. As a teenager, she was a ticket taker and popcorn girl at the Warrior theater. For a short time, she would also ride the bus from Warrior to Birmingham where she worked at Hill's Food Store in Avondale.

When Martha was 18 years old, she met the love of her life. On July 30, 1950, she married her beloved Royce. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, and they embarked on a life together that was filled with many travels, adventures, and memories. Royce and Martha were assigned to many duty stations during his military career, and they brought six children into the family along the way. Pam was born in Texas; Tom and Mike were born in England; Chuck and Nancy were born in Missouri; and Keith was born in Hawaii. Royce was transferred one more time, this time to Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia, where he eventually retired. Royce and Martha thought about staying in south Georgia permanently but eventually decided to move back home where they settled in Smoke Rise in the Warrior area.

Martha was a member of the Skyline Drive church of Christ since 1973. Throughout her life, she was a wonderful example of a Proverbs 31 lady — tender, nurturing, strong, hard working, lover of the Lord — and she raised her children this way. She was a homemaker for practically her entire marriage and she was an excellent cook. She prepared a full dinner for her family of eight every night and all of them sat around the kitchen table at the same time to enjoy her delicious country-style home cooking.

In 1987, Royce died at home, suddenly and unexpectedly, from a heart attack. Martha still loved to travel whenever possible, and after Royce passed away, she took many charter bus trips with friends and family and visited every state in the country.

Royce and Martha remained committed to their family and to each other every day of their marriage. She was married for 37 years and two months, and she was widowed for 37 years and six months. Martha passed away in the same house that she and Royce bought fifty-two years earlier. For the rest of her life after his passing, she talked about him fondly, often, and with that same twinkle in her eye. Martha's work on earth is complete, and she is now reunited with her beloved Royce for all eternity.
