Obituary

Born in Morris, Alabama on October 7, 1939, Mrs. Martha Sue Tyree passed away on Friday, the 11th of April 2025. She fought a relentless battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was educated at Mortimer Jordan High School and worked for the Jefferson County Commission as a civil servant for over 30 years. She was a respected and beloved member of the Morris and Crosston Communities.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Velma Self; her beloved husband, Dwight Leo Tyree; and sons, Scott J. Tyree and Eric Vann Tyree. She will be greatly missed by her son, Brian Lee Tyree; sisters, Barbara Higgins and Janice Robertson; grandchildren, Bridget Colvert, Kenneth Tyree, and Christopher Tyree; four great-grandchildren; special friends, Judy and Norman Elmore; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Martha loved cooking, gardening, and gathering with extended family. She was known to her family as "Mott," to all the nieces and nephews as "Aunt Mott," and to her son Brian's friends as "Momma Mott." She was a loving and caring person, devoted to her husband, sons, and extended family - always taking care of others before herself and cherishing her precious companion and dog, Forrest.

A visitation for Mrs. Tyree will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on the evening of Tuesday, April 15. Before receiving guests in the funeral home's chapel Tuesday evening, there will be an hour of private viewing time for Mrs. Tyree's family members, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Friends should remain in the funeral home's lobby until the chapel doors have been opened for the visitation to begin. The family will receive guests in the chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. A graveside service officiated by Robert Sparkman will be held in Liberty Minter Cemetery the following day, Wednesday, April 16, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
