Obituary

Mary E. Nixon, age 76, of Corner, Alabama, was called to her eternal home. Wednesday, June 2, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Nixon; children, John Gray and Renee Overstreet; parents, James and Irene Smith; sister, Mamie Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Joe  and Sue Smith. She is survived by her son, Dewayne (Cheryl) Gray; Grandchildren, Megan (Andrew) DeFoor, Emily (Jacob), Micheal (Tori) Gray; great-grandchildren; Lexi, Brantley, Mason, Carter, and Kayson; brother, James (Teresa) smith; sisters Ruth (Ricky) Melvin, and Raynell Hudgins; several loved nieces and nephews.

Mary was  known in her community for being the chief poll worker during elections, as well as being a local Avon representative for more than thirty years. She loved the Lord and served as a devoted Sunday school and children's church teacher for many years. One of her favorite summer activities was canning and preserving vegetables, as well as making her homemade sauerkraut. Mary was a devoted and loving family woman, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

There will be a visitation, Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 10:30-11:30 am, Messmer Goodwin Funeral Homel. The funeral service will be in the chapel at 11:30 am following visitation. Interment will be at Jones/Crooked Creek Cemetery at Sardis Grove.
