Merle H. Pendley earned his wings on Monday, August 17, 2020 at age 66. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonnie Thomas Pendley; two daughters, Marcia (Alan) Watson and Angela Harris; one granddaughter, Madison Couch Robertson; three grandsons, Brandon Couch, Matthew Young, and Anthony Harris; father, Hansel Pendley; one brother, Perry Pendley; mother-in-law, Josie James; and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family. Merle was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Drummond Pendley and grandparents, Theodore Drummond, Luvene Drummond, Armenda Drummond, William Pendley and Nellie Pendley. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army following in his father's footsteps who was a WWII Veteran. Merle was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He was very often the center of attention. He loved Alabama football and entertained people with his stuffed monkey that plays the Alabama fight song. He wanted to take care of people and wouldn't let you pay if you went out to eat with him. He was a dreamer, loved to travel, and longed to play music like his father and has passed that to his youngest grandson. He was a great man and he will be missed by all his family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Morris Cemetery.
