Michael Edward Tumlin
09/25/1959—01/05/2023

Michael "Mike," age 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January
5, 2023, after a long 15-month battle with liver cancer. He passed away peacefully
in his sleep at home, as he had wanted, surrounded by loved ones.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Edward and Margaret Alice
(Elliott) Tumlin. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hayes Tumlin who he married
on May 7, 1993; sister, Pam Tumlin Lawson (Michael) of Hayden; brother-in-law,
Raymon V. Hayes, Jr. (Dorothy) of Albertville, Alabama; sister-in-law, Cindy
Smith Hayes (Omrie) of Pontotoc, Mississippi; uncle, Alfred Tumlin; aunt, Geraldine Tumlin Phelps; nieces: Kelly S. Graves (Jason) of Hayden, Miranda Hayes Morgan (Eric) of Prattville, Alabama; nephews: Matthew B. Lawson of Hayden, Alabama, and Wesley S. Hayes (Miranda) of Camp Pemberton, California; great-nieces: Lilli Graves and Kenna Graves of Hayden, Jesse Morgan of Prattville, Alabama; great-nephew, Chase Morgan of Prattville, Alabama; many cousins, great-cousins, other family, friends, and classmates.

Mike was a faithful member of Desperation Church of Hayden, Alabama, where he
enjoyed serving as a Sunday Greeter, meeting visitors and acting as an
ambassador, as well as welcoming church members to services. Mike was retired
from Motion Industries of Birmingham, Alabama, in the 1990's after enjoying a
long employment in Inventory Control and other duties such as parts desk,
assistant warehouse manager. He especially enjoyed traveling in his job in
Inventory Control. Hobbies included antiquing, as well as refinishing antique or
older furniture, and adding to his elephant collection, which at one time included
2,000 elephants. He had a great love of Alabama Crimson Tide Football and was
an avid (some might say rabid) and faithful fan. "Roll Tide" and screams of
"Touchdown, Bama!" were heard on many Saturdays during the season. Game
Days included his customary "uniform" of Alabama scrub shirt, gray shorts, Bama
socks, topped off by his Bear Bryant/Sabin-esque game hat. He wore this outfit
every game day, putting it away after the game, not to be washed until the season
was over. A life-long member of the Hayden Community, he and Peggy lived on property that had been in Mike's family since the 1800s. He was a graduate of Hayden High School, class of 1977, where he made life-long friends that he laughed with, cried with, and met socially until the day of his passing. Mike had a great fondness for his alma mater, teachers, and classmates. He was loved in the community
and church where he served the Lord, and he certainly will be missed here by his
family, school friends, fellow church members as well as community.

The family will receive friends at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., with the funeral service following immediately after visitation. There will be a private interment for Mr. Tumlin.
