Mona Banister, age 81, of Hayden, Alabama, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021. Mona was a great wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a great mentor, co-worker, and friend. She will be missed by so many. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Alene Wood McCombs; brother, Ross Edgar McCombs (Linda); daughter, Debra Hutchinson; grandson, Casey Hutchinson; and husband, Winfred Jack Banister. She is survived by her husband, Washington Mezquita; daughter, Ann Cannon; son, James Boyd (Linda); brothers, Jack McCombs (Judy), David McCombs (Sheila), and Collis McCombs (Karen); granddaughter, Amanda Fernandes (Sonny); grandsons, David Cannon and Steven Boyd (Jessica); great-granddaughter, Caitlin Fernandes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation for Mona will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home in Warrior on Wednesday, January 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Following the funeral service, Mona will be laid to rest at Arab City Cemetery.
