Nellie D
Riddle
Sep 28, 1938 — Aug 16, 2024
Trafford
Nellie D. Riddle, age 85, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024. Nellie enjoyed trips to the mountains, especially at Christmas time to see Tony Gore. She enjoyed gospel singings, spending time with her family, and spoiling her grandkids. She was married for over 40 years to her husband, Chester, before his passing in 1998. She worked for over 25 years as a machinist at Fiber South in Trussville, before retiring. After retirement, she worked with her niece cleaning houses to keep herself active. She went to church at Friendship Freewill Baptist, until her health no longer allowed her. The past few years Nellie had Pepper, her dearly loved "dog baby" to keep her company. She will be missed greatly by her family, but they have comfort knowing she has been reunited with her true love.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Riddle; parents, Sylvester and Ella Hogeland; and siblings, Billy Hogeland, Claira Pesnell, Hazel Shelton, Ruby Baily, Ode Hogeland and Sampson Hogeland. She is survived by her children, Louis Riddle (Yonna), Barbara Sharitt, and Susan Smith (Damon); grandchildren, Nicole Able (Ryan), Cassidy Riddle, Brandon Able, J.C. Riddle (Haven) and Rhonda Graves (Paul), Logan Smith and Peyton Smith; great-grandchildren, Isla Riddle, Samantha Graves and Andrew Graves; sister, Elbie Trammell; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Enhabit Home Health and Hospice, for their special care and compassion shown towards their mom, and also to Dr. David Bryant, her physician of many years.
A visitation for Nellie will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on the evening of Tuesday, August 20, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church on the following day, Wednesday, August 21, beginning at 2:00 p.m. For an hour prior to the funeral service commencement, Mrs. Riddle will lie in state at the church. Interment to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
