Raymond Jerome Mahaffey, age 71, of Pinson, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

Raymond was known by most people as "Poppy" and he loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. After retiring from serving Jefferson County's Sheriff's Department, you could usually find him riding around on his lawnmower or sitting out in the yard in his chair.

Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Norman Mahaffey; mother, Patsy Moore; stepfather, Charles Moore; sister, Barbara Miller; two brothers: Ronald and Donald Mahaffey; and his grandson, Colby Sims.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Regina Mahaffey; daughter, Johnna Gowen (Tommy); sons, Jeff Mahaffey (Charity) and Jarrod Mahaffey; daughter, Jena Mahaffey; grandchildren, Blakely Sims, Garrett Mahaffey, Shelbi Gowen, Evan Rutledge, and Roman Harris; two sisters, Betty Wadsworth (Larry) and Martha Hogan (Terry); and brother-in-law, Jerry Miller.

A celebration of life memorial service for Raymond will be held at a later date.
