Rickey Wayne Childers, age 72, passed away in the comfort of his home on Saturday, July 2 ^nd due to cancer.  Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Rickey managed his illness with strength and grace, and fought a hard battle right until the end. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family, who he adored more than anything else in this world.

Rickey is survived by his lifelong love and wife of fifty years, Carolyn White Childers; Children: Kevin Childers (Christy), Kellie Dowdy (Michael), and Keith Childers (Laura); Grandchildren: Carrson Knight, Kaleb Childers, Abby McDaniel, Mason Dowdy, Keaton Childers, Olivia Anderson, Caroline Dowdy, Clara Dowdy, Kaina Childers; Brother, Larry Childers (Donna) and Sister, Regina along with a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Childers and mother, Julia Childers.

Rickey retired from a long career as Facilities Director for Jefferson County and proudly served his country in the United States Army 1969-1971.

Visitation will be held at Love's Crossing Church of God (10721 Love Ave, Trafford) beginning at 5pm on Thursday, July 7 ^th with service starting at 6pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Rickey's honor to Kindred Hospice of Cullman (1015 1 ^st Ave SW, Cullman, 256-737-7234).

The family would like to say a special thanks to his nurse Lindsay for her extraordinary care and compassion, his care team Cassie, Jessica, Nancy, and Rebecca, and the entire Kindred Hospice staff.
