Sc otty Lawrence of Fultondale, Alabama passed away Sunday, August 30 , 2020 . He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L . Lawrence of Rison, Arkansas and Dean Jones of Warrior, Alabama and grandsons Devon and Tyler . Scotty Lawrence is survived by his wife of 30 years, Martha ; his children, Robert Lawrence Jr . , Crystal Lawrence, and Kellie (Nathan) Sneed ; his stepchildren, David Whitney and Laura Whitney ; 10 grandchildren, and 8 great - grandchildren . He retired from the City of Birmingham in 2001 , after working nearly 30 years at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens . Scotty loved being in the woods, whether it was deer or turkey hunting, rescuing wildflowers, or just being there . He often said that he had the best childhood growing up in the woods surrounding his mother's home in Warrior, Alabama . He always had a garden growing the best tomatoes in this part of the country and he rarely missed an Auburn Football game . His love for his family was so strong, loving each one of us with all of his heart and he was loved equally in return . He also leaves behind many fond memories to be cherished by his family and friends . Mr. Lawrence's family will have a memorial service on Saturday September 5, 2020 at Kimberly United Methodist Church, service time will be 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Larry Sloan officiating.
