On August 13, 2021, Ronald Lewis Slatton, naaah... Ronny, Runny, Slick, Daddy, PawPaw, Brother, Uncle Ronny, left this life behind for a new one. Ronny suffered a lot through the last few years but in the final days of his life, he gave his life to Jesus and became (as he put it) "A full-blown Christian."

Ronny Slatton was a good guy, who loved his family and he let us know it. The feelings were mutual. He was hard-headed and could argue with a fence post, but...it does run in the family. He loved to aggravate you, be he would make you eventually laugh about it and get over it.  He loved football and Nascar and he was proud to be a southerner. If you dared to pronounce words correctly by adding the "l" on the end, like "school," instead of "skoo," you were a yankee and he let you know it.

Ronny spent most of his life working with his hands. He loved to build things and he loved being the boss. As a matter of fact one of his last acts of bossing was after he had been asleep several hours. Out of the blue he opened his eyes, looking around his bedside and saw everyone standing around and said, "How's everybody doing?" and gave us the sweetest smile. We all laughed, then he said, "What, are ya'll on break? Get back to work." So he made us laugh all the way to the end. His humor was contagious and annoying.  He loved getting under your skin and then making your laugh about it.

He was a man who took pride in his work, whether it was a building project, or working on a car, he wanted it done right. For this reason, the last few years took a lot out of him because he couldn't work. We are so thankful for Sherry taking such good care of him, being loving, and devoted to him when it was physically and emotionally exhausting. As his health declined, and it seemed like the sparkle in his eyes was missing, it was heart-breaking. Ronny loved family and he loved deeply. He loved his children, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. We got to see that light back in his eyes the final days as his children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews, and friends, gathered around him and loved on him.

Ronald "Ronny" Slatton was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Elaine Slatton; son, Ronald Lewis Slatton, Jr. (Little Ronny); brothers, Larry, Loyd , Travis, and Roger Slatton. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Slatton; sons, Ryan (Patricia) Slatton, Drexel Haney; daughters, Amanda (Derrick) O'Connell, Heather (Chris) McKown; grandchildren, Alex Reese, Chandler and Miranda O'Connell, Tommy Haney; special bonus children, Michelle McMurry, Alex Slatton, and Scooter Slatton; sisters, Jewell Wood, Joyce (Butch) Rickels; Beatha Slatton, Doris Roberson, Lora (Jimmy) McGee; brother, Hoyt Slatton; numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held in the chapel, Monday, August 16, 2021, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Elvester Cemetery.
