Rufus Dillon Hays, 85, of Hayden, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Dillon was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend. He carried a quiet strength and gentle humor that touched everyone he met. A proud veteran, Dillon served his country in the United States Army, a testament to the dedication and integrity he brought to every aspect of his life. For over 30 years, Dillon worked with Hallmark Construction, where he was known not only for his skill but also for his willingness to help anyone in need. He was a natural handyman who loved projects—especially those he shared with his daughter Donna. Dillon found joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, boating and camping at the lake, and spending hours tending to his vegetable garden. He especially cherished quiet moments on the boat with his daughter Michelle, enjoying the peace of the lake and each other's company. His greatest joy, however, was time with his family. He delighted in watching his grandsons, Rhys and Ashton, play sports, never missing a game, and always cheering them on with pride. Dillon was also a proud uncle, always ready to share his wisdom, humor, and support with his nieces and nephews. He loved family gatherings, laughter, and making every moment special. He was a passionate Alabama football fan, cheering enthusiastically for the Crimson Tide. A faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church, Dillon lived his life with kindness, generosity, and a servant's heart. He loved deeply, laughed often, and made life brighter for everyone around him.

Dillon was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Roosevelt and Orel Love Hays; his nephew, Dwight Warden; and his brother-in-law, J.C. Warden. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Ruth Hays; daughters, Donna Hays (Shelly Anderson) and Michelle Hays; grandsons, Rhys and Ashton Anderson-Hays; his sister, Sue Hays Warden; and several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Dillon's love for his family, his faith, and the simple joys of life leaves a lasting legacy. He will be remembered for his warm heart, his wisdom, and the countless ways he made the world around him better.

A visitation and funeral service will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 16. Public visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Johnny Allred and Bro. Phillip Bremmerman will be officiating. A brief committal service will be held graveside in the church's adjoining cemetery, just before interment.
