Sarah Evangeline Sloan, age 90, of Warrior, AL passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Ocie Winnett and Emma Lee Lowery Winnett; and husband, Joel Starling Sloan, Jr. She is survived by her sons, William Phillip Sloan and Joel Allan Sloan; and daughter, Emma Joanne Sloan. Sarah was an avid gardener, enjoying both flower and vegetable gardening. She loved and was devoted to her garden club, of which she served as president for fourteen years. She was a hard worker, and took care of others more than she took care of herself. She took great pleasure in caring for and nurturing animals of all kinds, from household pets to domestic farm animals, including her pet cat and favorite farm chicken. Sarah built and ran Happy Hilltop Kindergarten in the Corner community for thirteen years, enjoying success as a kindergarten teacher and mentor to children in her own community. In her younger years, she enjoyed catering social events and gatherings, providing a much needed service to people in the community. Sarah was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, and she loved her church and church family very much. She was an inspiration to others, and will be missed dearly by family and loved ones. A visitation for Mrs. Sloan will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church on Thursday, June 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church the following day, June 17, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Union Missionary Baptist Cemetery.
