Joseph Scott Lawrence, known to everyone as "Scotty," passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the age of 50. Born on October 27, 1975, in Birmingham, Alabama, Scotty spent his life surrounded by the people and places he loved, most recently calling Tarrant, Alabama, home.

Scotty was the kind of person who could light up any room he walked into. He loved to laugh and cut up with folks, and if there was a karaoke machine anywhere nearby, you could bet he'd be the first one on the stage. He was the life of every party and had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome. He was passionate about Alabama football, loved country music, and enjoyed going on trips whenever he got the chance. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler. More than anything, though, Scotty treasured his family get-togethers, where he could be surrounded by the people who meant the most to him.

Scotty was preceded in death by his parents, James Lawrence and Darleen Woods; and his grandparents, Arthur & Beatrice Lawrence and Charles & Aileen Woods. He is survived by his brothers, Eddie Reid (Susan) and Allen Lawrence; his sister, Amanda Chappell; his uncles, Ray and Ralph Lawrence; his aunts, Debbie Goodwin (Al) and Marjorie Padgitt; his cousin, David Lawrence (Lorie); and a very special friend, Jessie Upton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends, all of whom will miss Scotty dearly.

Visitation will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Friday, May 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for both family and friends. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Clint Davis, will begin at noon. Immediately following the funeral service, everyone will travel of their own accord to Warrior Cemetery, where we will all reconvene graveside for a brief committal service prior to interment.
