Shannon Dale Rice, age 51, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

A visitation for Mr. Rice will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 13, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Warrior Cemetery.

Shannon was preceded in death by his father, Dale Rice; grandparents, Rufus & Blanche Rice, and Tommy & Lillie Harris; and his nephew, Blake Pugh. He is survived by his children, Taylor (Ashley) Rice, Malea Rice and Kiana Rice; grandchildren, Sam and Lily; his mother, Ann McGaughy; sisters, Rhonda (Mike) Hayes, Kellie Johnson, and Heather (Tim) James; nieces & nephews, Garrett (Brooke) Pugh, Skyelar (Drew) Pugh, Lexie James, and Brock James; as well as 5 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews.

Memories of my awesome brother-in- law Shannon Bubba Rice - written by Mike Hayes:

- I will never forget the day I met Bubba Rice in the spring of 1983 when I first started
dating his sister & my future wife Rhonda! I had dropped Rhonda off after a lunch date
and was getting in my car to come home when in the distance I hear a ruckus around
the bend of the parking lot and it's my future brother in law Bubba as he comes
zooming up to me on a wicked BMX style bicycle, he was the coolest kid in the
neighborhood, his beautiful mullet flying in the wind, grinning his Ultra Bright smile
from ear to ear, he was truly excited if not determined to meet me! We had an instant
connection that day and we became forever brothers from that moment forward!
- I have always thought that Bubba would have been a famous X Games Superstar if he
had been born a few years later! He was one of the best skateboarders I have ever
seen, and he could ride anything with wheels like a pro & I could easily see him on the
winner's podium in BMX Bicycling, Motocross, Skateboarding or In Line Skating and I am
convinced he would have been a topnotch snow boarder and free style skier if he ever
had the chance to attempt it!
- Bubba was a true daredevil and he loved to go fast and loved his fast cars and
motorcycles with a passion! He was an incredible fearless driver of anything with a
steering wheel! I could easily envision him as a champion in NASCAR or Motocross!
- Bubba had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh & cut up & have a good time with
family and friends! Any time we got together the laughs and the cracks were soon to
follow! He had a quick wit that he loved to share with me every chance he got! I'll
never forget the sound of his laughter and the good times we shared as a family!
- Bubba was one those people in my life that whenever or wherever I saw him he never
ever failed to tell me he loved me! He knew that I knew his love but he was going to
look me in the eyes and say it out loud each and every time!
- Bubba was an incredible mechanic and a true gear head! I am sure he could have built
his own race car along with the help from his gear head friends!
- Bubba was a master painter & found lots of joy & pride in his perfection as a painter!

- Bubba was an absolute master of remote-control cars & video games (especially the old
school games like Atari). In fact when I watch the TV show Battle Bots I think of him
and how he would have been a master champion of these remote controlled battling
robots!

- Bubba was a picky eater but I will always remember two of his favorite things were a
huge bowl of Fruity Pebbles or a huge bowl of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream! I
wonder if he ever mixed them together?!
- Bubba loved the Alabama Crimson Tide! Roll Tide Roll!
- Bubba was one of the most handsome charismatic dudes in any room, he had a cool
sense of style and a smile that could light up your life,…..and of course he had an EPIC
mullet back in the day to top it all off! But he was always very humble and gracious
about his good looks and always made anyone he met feel important and special!
- I am going to miss Bubba dearly but I will hold on to the special memories of him for
now,………..but I envision that if I one day I make it to heaven and as I joyfully reunite &
celebrate with all those special loved ones who have gone before me then suddenly I'm
gonna hear a ruckus in the distance & it's gonna be Bubba coming around the bend,
popping wheelies on a wicked BMX bike, the coolest kid in heaven, his glorious mullet
flying in the wind, grinning his Ultra Bright smile from ear to ear, racing towards me to
embrace me look me in the eyes & tell me he loves me and welcome me home!!
Until then Bubba, I will miss you and you know I truly love you!
