Obituary

Timothy Shawn Lowe, known as Shawn, age 50, passed peacefully away at U.A.B. Hospital Friday, December 9, 2022.

Timothy Shawn Lowe was a walking miracle. Born on December 28, 1971, he was diagnosed with Lowe's Syndrome when he was 9 months old. Doctors told his parents he would be lucky if he lived to ten years old. They also told them he would be a vegetable and never walk or talk.

His parents knew they had been entrusted with a very special child and they did everything in their power to ensure he got the best care possible. He had his first eye surgery at 3 weeks old, and started wearing glasses at 6 months. Over the years, he had other eye surgeries, two kidney transplants, two
back surgeries and many hospital stays. You would have thought he would be bitter because of his situation, but he joyfully faced life and overcame every obstacle thrown in his path.

He did indeed learn to walk and talk, and once he started talking, he never shut up! When he was young, he played t-ball and was a peewee cheerleader. He participated in Special Olympics many years and won many awards. He graduated from high school and got a job at Walmart. You never heard him complain, but you did hear his laughter a lot. He loved meeting people and if he liked you, he would pick at you. He was also very good at getting on your last nerve!

He was a ham radio and CB operator and he made friends all over the world. He kept up with his friends and could tell you what was going on in their lives, and he truly cared. He had a generous heart and would do everything in his power to help anyone he knew who was in need.

Music was his passion and he loved to sing and play his harmonica. He hosted an internet radio show and sang on Church of the Air as well as at many other churches whenever he got the opportunity.

He loved the Lord with all his heart. He was head usher at his church and made sure everyone who came in the doors was welcomed with a smile and a hug.

He loved his family. He and his brother Lynn loved to pick at each other, but they always had each other's back. While he could be difficult when his mother made sure he took his meds and drank his water, they had a very special bond. His dad was his hero, and his nephews and nieces were the light of his life. Cousins, aunts and uncles were all very special to him and he loved being a part of a big, loud family (him being the loudest!).

We will miss him greatly, but we know he is with the Lord and he is no longer handicapped or hurting.

Shawn was preceded in death by his dad, Thomas H. Lowe; MeMaw, Maggie Thomas; Pepaw, Walter W. Thomas; Mamaw, Thelma Dollar Lowe; and Papa, Clarence Lowe. He is survived by his mama, Brenda Thomas Lowe; brother, Lynn Lowe; sister, Priscilla Lowe; nephews, Koty and Jacob Lowe; niece, Holly Lowe; great-nephew, Mason; great-nieces Kylie and Madi; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
