Sergeant Steven Douglas Keitges, affectionately known as "Steve," passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026, at the age of 70.Born on February 5, 1956, Steve was the son of the late Robert and Mary Alice Keitges.
Steve dedicated more than 40 years of his life to law enforcement, serving with honor, dedication, and commitment to the communities he protected. Throughout his distinguished career, he served with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Jefferson State Community College Campus Police, and finally the Warrior Police Department, where he completed his law enforcement career and retired. For Steve, law enforcement was more than just a profession. It was a lifetime of service, and the badge he wore represented his commitment to protecting and serving others.
Outside of his career, Steve enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved shopping on eBay, finding a good deal, and telling stories. Anyone who knew Steve knew he always had a story to share. Of all the accomplishments in Steve's life, none meant more to him than being a father to his son, Douglas James "DJ" Keitges. DJ was his greatest pride, his greatest joy, and the accomplishment he treasured above all others. Steve especially enjoyed spending time with DJ, whether it was just the two of them or taking DJ and his friends on outings and adventures. Those moments of laughter, friendship, and making memories were among the things he cherished most. He took great pride in watching his son grow and sharing in the experiences that meant so much to him.
Steve will be remembered not only for the badge he wore and the years he served, but also for the stories he told, the memories he made, and above all, the unconditional love he had for his son.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Alice Keitges.
He leaves behind his beloved family; Son, Douglas James "DJ" Keitges of Hayden, Alabama; Sister, Cathie (Carlos) Cagle of Maryville, Tennessee; Brother, Tom (Dion) Keitges of Ocala, Florida; Nieces, Katie Jacks, LeShaun Fleeman Cagle, and Gretha Floeng Keitges; Nephews, Sean Keitges and Wesley Cagle; and Numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.
Though his earthly journey has ended, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
