Sue Hays
Young
Jun 20, 1941 — Feb 2, 2026
Trafford
Sue Hays Huffstutler Young of Trafford, Ala. passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026.
Sue "Nana" Young was an active church member at First Baptist Church Trafford for over 50 years, where she was very involved in the WMU. She retired from US Pipe, North Birmingham, after working there for 25 years. She volunteered for the North Jefferson Baptist Caring Center for several years. She and her husband, Gene, traveled with Builders for Christ for many years helping build and repair churches in the NJ Baptist Association. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, and most anything outdoors. She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grands do sports and dance recitals. She loved watching almost any sport on TV, especially baseball, softball and football. She was happiest when our entire family was gathered at her house.
Sue was preceded in death by her husbands, Larry Huffstutler and Gene Young; daughter, Elaine Mantooth; granddaughter, Lindsey Huffstutler; parents, Ottis and Verna Hays; brother, James "Bud" Hays; and son-in-law, Mark Hays. She is survived by her children, Renea (Pat) Melvin, Dennis (Carla) Huffstutler, and Leah (Joey) Young; grandchildren: Andrew (Brittany) Hays, Dustin (Leah) Hays, Bethany (Mike) Hughes, Patrick (Britany) Melvin, Jenna Huffstutler, and Brennan (Lauren) Huffstutler; and great-grandchildren: Brilee, Maddox, Brooklynn, Brianna, Luke, Emma Kate, Levi, Owen, Asher, Evie and Addi; and son-in-law, Terry Mantooth.
A visitation for Mrs. Young will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Friday, February 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at County Line Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mrs. Young's memory to the NJ Baptist Caring Center. A very special thanks to our sitters, Sharon DeBaun, Anita Williams, Charlotte Ann, and our special friend, Carol Veigas, who took such good care of Sue.
